Bill Staines says… “Doug is a wonderful songwriter with a great sense of tradition.”

Douglas Clegg’s musical career began in the San Francisco Bay Area where he grew up, first inspired by watching his father play stride and boogie-woogie piano. He studied piano, then went on to teach himself guitar, fiddle, mandolin, accordion, and various other string and wind instruments.

By his late twenties, Clegg had been playing out in clubs and bars, and began writing his own songs. His first record, Fill My Thirst, was well-received, and the title track was covered by Bill Staines. The song Run, Run from the album was featured in SingOut! Magazine. He went on to record several more singer/songwriter projects, and then put out his first full-length fiddle record in 2019, Above the Din. Said to be “stunningly evocative, ancient and yet current,” and “a wonderful musical web of his own top-notch tunes woven together with traditional Celtic numbers,” it was highly praised.

Doug’s performances in clubs, coffeehouses, in concerts and at festivals throughout New England and the Northeast, California, and other parts of the U.S. have made him a well-known and sought-after artist on the national folk music circuit.
